Freeform and semifreeform locs.

Hey there.

So I have been following some of my favourite loc  bloggers on their journey to freeform and semifreeform locs, from their big chop to growing thicker locs  and the inspiration has been phenomenal.

1. Jocelyn of curlynugrowth (semifreeform locs)

2. Salkis Re (freeform locs)

3. Taren guy ( freeform locs)

This women have beautiful thick locs, don't you think? I also can't stop admiring them , anyway stay with me. I remember I had promised to explain more about freeform and semifreeform locs.

*Freeform locs
This are simply locs that form naturally without manipulation. You just let your hair lock on itself naturally without doing anything to it. A good example is that of Bob Marley.

Women can also rock freeform locs

Advantages

√You won't have to worry about build up or lint.
√ Less maintenance, you just wash and go.
√Its an easier route to thick locs.

Disadvantages

√If you don't like frizz, freeforming is probably not for you.
√ If you like neatness and uniformity, this is not for you too.
√The locs tend to get flatter with time but this will depend on your hair texture.

√If you have natural thick hair freeforming will make your hair even thicker and heavier.

*Semifreeform locs

This are locs that are grown with very little maintenance. Retwist is done after 2-8 months depending on what works best for you.

Advantages.

√Volume. Your hair gets thicker and will look fuller.
√It is more of a statement than a style
√ No thinning of locs as a result of constant retwisting for you only twist once in lets say 2-8 months.

Disadvantages
√ If you have fine/ thin hair it may not really work well without big parting pattern on your locs. Which will result in major scalp showing when you retwist.
√ If you like constant retwisting of your hair, semifreeforming may not work for you too.
√If your natural hair is thick, it will get even thicker and heavier with semifreeform so probably you won't consider it as much.

My locs are semifreeform.Meaning I don't retwist oftenly. I just wash and moisturize them, then retwist after a month or two. The urge to retwist is real! I really need a dose of patience in order to go upto 4 months without retwist.

I hope you will weigh the prons and cons and choose the best method that will work for you.

Happy festive season!!

Yours Loc head,
Mesh.

5 BABY LOCS STYLES

Hello peeps. I must admit this rain and the cold got me really bad. My fingers get numb everytime I start typing. Just kidding. I missed you anyway. So this past two days I have been having a rough time trying to keep my baby locs down. I know, they just want to stay up. So I came up with a few styles to get you through the awkward stages of baby locs.  This is a simple style.Just hold up a few locs at the back then use a head band to hold them in place. You don't have to stress over your one month or two months old locs.   Another style for baby locs is the mohawk. This one is pretty simple too and will go with any outfit for many ocassions.  Another style is using head bands to accesorize. You can have them in different colours. This will go well with starter locs.  You can  also use  a head band with a bow to add style to your locs. Especially if you have thick hair or locs.   You can also simply put a flower on the side to bring a simple ...

What is the difference between dreadlocs, sisterlocs and brotherlocs?

DREADLOCS Dreadlocs are simply hair that has been matted together and can be formed using various methods. SISTERLOCS They are smaller than dreadlocs and their installation takes longer than that of dreadlocs.Probably twice or thrice longer. BROTHERLOCS Brotherlocs are similar to sisterlocs but are a bit larger although smaller than traditional locs. Can you unlock dreadlocs, sisterlocs and brotherlocs? Some people claim its possible but in real sense its difficult and leads to too much breakage. Most people just chop off their locs when they don't want them anymore. So what kind of locs do you have? Stay blessed!

TO USE WAX OR NOT?

For a long time now, I have been battling with the same question. Many of my clients and friends have also asked me about wax and which is the best method to maintain locs. First of all wax or moulding gel is the most common method of locs maintenance. For the simple reason that it keeps the locs looking neat and smooth. But just like everything else, it has its pros and cons. From a personal experience, using wax in excessive amounts will damage your locs, they will start having build up (the whitish stuff) and it’s really hard to get it out. Your locs will appear untidy and you may even start hating them to the point of wanting to cut them. If you want to use wax for your retouch, please visit your loctitian, he or she will know the right amount of wax to use in retouching your locs and the right way to dry them. If the wax is not dried properly, it will stick to your locs and form build up. Apparently, some fellas opt to retouch their locs on their own as a way of saving money. T...
